Chic in Neutrals…

“Risking is better than Regretting”

Yes, I am slowly learning to agree with the above quote when it comes to life or fashion!

Growing back in India we were not encouraged to opt for neutral or beige color because of our skin tone. Mothers wouldn’t let their daughters gravitate towards this color saying that it does not do anything for them. It’s an interesting fact how different parts of the world have different perspectives of the same color but the positive note is how someone adapts to these differences and can make it their own!

Look1:

Tried to put together all neutral color look with striking accessories to complement the look. I love a wide leg pant in any season but if the material is heavier it can be good for colder months too. Paired it with a bodysuit in a darker shade of beige to create a monochromatic feel, you know am a big fan of monochromatic look. Blazer in the check print helped in elevating the look there by polishing the whole look.

When it comes to accessories decided to go with a forest green bag which is a good replacement for black! we can give our black bags a rest :D. You must have seen animal print is big now and will continue to do so for the upcoming seasons, so why not take advantage of it and come out of our comfort zone. I love this subtle snake print sling backs with a structural heel which mimics a neutral shoe from far but the details are to die for!

Look2:

Keeping the same blazer and switching up with light knit top and wine color trouser to give the look more dimension. Always tuck your tops or sweaters for an elongated look. If you notice have kept the the same shoes and they really standout against the wine color. This has to be one of my favorite looks! πŸ™‚

Look3:

Received a lot of compliments for this look when I posted the picture on instagram πŸ™‚ Let me tell you how I put together this look, one afternoon after coming back from a movie and was wearing the same old sweater and jeans then suddenly my eyes fell on this tan coat which finally is a part of my closet. Then in order to finish the look paired it with shoes and bucket bag for bling details, voila the look was born!

I tried to incorporate bling details to elevate the causal look and saw many of you liked it! When it comes to trying out new trends like the snake print shoes and bucket bag have preferred to not spend a lot on it. So i have advised many of my friends to do the same , always try out the trends by spending less and if they like it they can go ahead and invest more for good quality.

Both the slingbacks and bag are from Charles & Keith , a company from Singapore known worldwide for their quality and affordable price. Priyanka chopra sported their products and that’s how I know them.

Work Edit with EXPRESS

Welcome back Y’all and myself too!LOL …….needed that.

Its been a long time have written something and I wanted to do this styling from the get go as you are aware am an unofficial ambassador of Express(that’s no secret)!

One reason have not written a blog is that the Instagram stories have become a big thing now and have made them very addictive. Very excited that my daily #OOTD are getting good views. So blame the Instagram stories for my blog absence πŸ˜€

So, lets get started on today’s styling session! Its going to be a long post.

Am styling a blazer and a jumpsuit from Express in 3 different ways!! Are you ready?

LOOK1:

Wanted to go for a monochromatic look by pairing the blazer and jumpsuit from the same windowpane print. Opted for a transparent belt to maintain the monochromatic look and completed the whole outfit with black pumps and neutral grey bag. I was on a hunt to find that color and was very excited to find Angela Roi bag!

This look was inspired by Men’s 3 piece look (waist coat, pant, blazer). Ladies we are lucky as we have the Jumpsuit!!

As the weather gets cooler you can add a light jacket like above. Who say’s you can’t look chic while bundling up πŸ™‚ btw I love layering. It gives me an opportunity to try different textures to achieve cohesive look!

Don’t you think this is a badass look!! πŸ˜‰

LOOK 2:

IMG_8646

Here I teamed up the jumpsuit with grey long blazer and gold belt to match the buttons on them. Love to add bling to my outfit at any opportunity!

Closer look at the details.

LOOK3:

When I wore this outfit to office got a lot of compliments including Express πŸ™‚ So I thought why not add this to the look! Very basic white and black combo paired with the window pane blazer. Added red pumps to add a pop of color.

I hope these looks gave you some inspiration and must say Express always carry trendy yet classy pieces. Have been their fan for a while and will continue to be. Let me know if you want to see more looks from different brands too.

New York meets Miami…….

Before I jump in to why Miami trip happened wanted to share something on personal front. Starting February I was not feeling well and experienced dizziness through out 2 weeks with no clear diagnosis of my situation. In that moment just to cheer me up I booked a trip to Miami πŸ™‚ and was hoping to feel better by that time. Fingers crossed!

So the dizziness lasted for 6 weeks and the reason being EBV a common virus triggering abnormal Thyroid levels . Thankfully endocrynologist was able to detect that with proper medication I was back to normal. I had never felt this discomfort and scared for my health in my entire life. Life is unpredictable!

I am very thankful for my manager , co-workers, family and friends for their support during this time πŸ™‚

I wanted to meet this photographer who shot super model Coco Rocha(am such a big fan) and was based out of Miami. Was so not sure if I would make that trip so had very little time for preparation and whole time was thinking if the photoshoot will go as expected.

I was very excited when finally things fell in place and you will know why. haha

Jyothi-Selects-17

My love for blazers continued here too (I decided not to crop the woman :D). Boxy blazers are in trend now but this is not something new they were a big hit in the 90’s if you dont believe me go check out Seinfeld to see Elaine’s wardrobe πŸ˜‰ Please be aware of your body type before you make your pick so they dont overwelm you. Miami to me is all about sun and bright colors so I have paired this with a bright orange strapless jumpsuit and kept all accessories in the same tone as the blazer. We don’t want too many statement pieces together.

I loved how this look came together. It was just my vision and happy how it turned out. Have been a fan of jumpsuits and this one is very comfortable and can be toned down for more casual look by teaming with a jean jacket and sneakers! I always pick pieces that can be transformed and used in many ways.

Jyothi-Selects-11

I added a black belt just to pull the outfit together. Nude pumps always make you look taller and I need that (petite problems).

Jyothi-Selects-26

I got ton’s of compliments and people have asked me about this bag. Its a dupe of Chloe and comes under $40 bucks how great is that!!. This bag is so much fun and so versatile. I used it as a bangle as it adds sophistication to the outfit. It also comes with cross body straps for more convenience. Overall am in love with it <3.

Jyothi-Selects-23

Goldtones of the bag goes very well with sunglasses. When people come to visit Miami they expect you to carry a very beachy look but when I stepped out of my hotel wearing this got a lot of attention!! Location can change but some styles stick with you forever LOL

The location was perfect for this shoot and credit goes to Gen my sweet photographer who was very patient with me the whole time. Miami Design District is home to lot of hign end brands but what mainly attracts you is the modern architecture coupled with artistic taste. One can spend the whole day walking on the streets admiring them.

Am ending this post with a positive note life is unpredictable so follow your dreams and do things that make you happy!! πŸ™‚Β

The Beginning!

Hola people πŸ™‚

You must be wondering why my post is called “The Beginning” well this is a special post.

Am very proud to have started my career from world’s most iconic Financial District

“Wall Street”

jojo-shkphoto_08

I started my career almost 5.5yrs ago walking on the same streets and getting used toΒ  fast paced culture for which New York is famous for πŸ™‚ I loved everything it had to offer right from fashion to food to people. Sometimes there would be no time to even glance to what the street had to offer. Well to start with I was a naive girl who was going through some challenges and that was my “Work It” moment which I believe was not easy!Am very grateful forΒ having this Opportunity. It’s always in your hands on what you make out of it.

I have grown a lot from that day and above picture reflects that! πŸ™‚

Its the same person but with lot of life lessons, experiences and memories that have made me who I am today a stong, independent, confident woman with dreams to fulfill.

jojo-shkphoto_07

I know it got little serious there ….but to lighten up my boss once asked me what I loved about my work and with no thinking blurted “I love walking on Wall Street ,feels very powerful “. He was laughing πŸ˜€

Though my project was a very short one have carried the “Wall Street Girl” look to all the places where I have worked. So I was the City Girl wherever my work took me and am glad was able to inspire few during my journey.

jojo-shkphoto_01

Was very excited when my vision of going back and doing a photoshoot in Wall Street finally materialized.

Coming back to the look its a typical 9 to 5 look and one of my favourites! Its winter and berry is the color of the season and navy blue is the perfect foundation color. Its actually a dress even my mom asked me like others if it was a Skirt and a blouse. The dress gives a little bit of scottish vibe but I love it. The Blazer adds sophistication to the dress.

I wanted to use only 2 colors so added the bag of same color. I have received a lot of compliements for the bag and yes its an ideal bag for 9 to 5. The feature that stands out is its structure which makes it very professional. Its a bit heavy if you don’t mind it carrying πŸ˜‰

jojo-shkphoto_06

The Shoes are trendy block suede heels which completes the look. I love heels but pointy ones hurtΒ but these are so much better.

Having this shoot during a holiday season has made it little more cheery πŸ˜€

PS: ThisΒ blog post is called ” The Beginning” for another reason too. My photographer and good friend Henrietta has moved to different state to pursue her higher studies. I am very happy for her and thankful for being part of my blogging journey.

So please welcome Sarah KuszelewiczΒ @shk.photo and am happy how the shoot turned out and edits too. It was lovely working with you and look forward for more.

Want to end this post by saying that IΒ will always be a “Wall Street Girl” from heart! ❀

Magic of Pleats…

Hi everyone am back! you must be wondering that was fast…hahaha

I realized blogging calms me down , its strange that something excites you also relaxes you πŸ™‚

Today we are going to see how to turn your flowy, girly pleated skirt to a more rock and roll look. I am not that in to head banging rock music but love to dress like them LOL

This outfit was a part of my “Grunge Look” Series, when I was putting these looks together everything looked dark and was in search for an escape. So this Look πŸ˜‰

GM8A9450

I got a feedback on this look to be very “Taxi” like. If its this cute why not?

If you see here the metal details of the jacket run from top to bottom that helps to mute the look and skirt to pop! You can try this look with gold details too but remember start and end with the same tone.

GM8A9475

Pleats growing up reminded me of school uniform but obviously the material was thick which I hated, would have shown more enthusiasm if they were made of such flowy material πŸ˜€

Am seeing how celebrities like Victoria Beckham are pairing this skirt with a crisp white shirt for a more polished look. I tried this look by adding a jean jacket for a more casual vibe.

GM8A9518

I so want to go dancing in this skirt! <3. You can just add a simple v neck blouse or an offshoulder top to make it more romantic πŸ˜‰

GM8A9533

And how can I end the post without a closeup? Love Love this piece its indeed my favourite necklaces from Bauble Bar <3. A little tip when pairing such a heavy metal piece make sure you wear a top as a base because sometimes the metal might not suit some skin types. Apart from that try for more white, grey colored tops to mute the heaviness. πŸ™‚

See I gave you so many options on how you can pair this lovely skirt. Let me know which one is your favourite and why?

Warrior Princess!!

I started writing this post from many days but lot of things took away my time, apologies for making you guys wait.

All of us at somepoint must have waited for a Hero/Heroine to come and rescue us from all our problems but it does not happen that way obviously life is not a movie. But we can draw inspiration from them and one such movie is Wonder Women. I like how her character was expected her to be fierce to take down the evil ‘Ares’ yet she believed in love and empathy.

It takes a lot of strength to be true to yourself. And yes my outfit is starting point of it πŸ™‚

GM8A9370

This is a strong and edgy look and am sure not many would like to attempt it . I understand you need to connect with it to try it and own it. But give it a shot on a day you want to get your inner warrior princess/queen out Β πŸ˜‰

GM8A9297

So I took very classic black and blue together but added elements that make it very unique. This is the easiest and safest bet to try something different.

Now a day’s midi dresses and shirt dresses are in trend because they are so comfortable. If you are bored to try the same just like me add a jeans underneath it. You can even add shorts (I might try this too). Β By doing this you are giving a little bit coverage for those Marilyn Monroe moments πŸ˜€ LOL

GM8A9277

I like how it gives movement and had so much fun wearing and shooting it! πŸ˜€ This is my photographer’s favorite shoot too. Felt like a Matador for a moment when I was flipping the edges of the dress πŸ™‚

GM8A9364

Close look at my necklace and am grateful to “Bauble Bar” for coming up with these rugged statement necklaces that indeed elevates an outfit. Best thing about this is it comes with a choker that can be worn seperately. Nice option to have if you don’t want to intimidate anyone with this look πŸ˜‰

Will end this post with a positive note that everyone faces unforseen setbacks but the best thing about is it makes us Stronger!

Classics by the Garden-Take2!

This is a continuation from my previous post “Classics by the Garden”.Β I got a little busy for last few weeks but couldn’t stop myself to do this post.

I am alittle obsessed with florals this season ……guess you guys already noticed that LOL

Here I choose black and white for the whole outfit.Lets take a glimpse shall we?

GM8A5848

My aim with this look was to go for a clean look but still keep it interesting with the details.

Sometimes right details can elevate a simple outfit but always remember to choose wisely πŸ™‚

GM8A5839

I always wanted to get that belt after seeing it in a store in Toronto but it was very pricey! Was on a hunt to find a more affordable one and finally spotted it in The Limited store. You have no idea how many ways you can use this belt !

The skirt was a more riskier buy because of the style but good thing about this is the price! Snagged this beauty on sale! (relief). One thing you can keep in mind is experiment on pieces that are on sale so when it does not work out it will not hurt your pocket πŸ˜€ The skirt is modest in length but fun due to the texture and I feel this comes handy for all the rooftop parties you will be hosting πŸ˜‰

GM8A5814

I am in love with this clutch , its so perfect <3. My girl who likes to hosts Rooftop parties needs something small but classic to match her outfit. The gold accents from the clutch matches with the dainty small gold accessories.

Special mention for the gold bracelets as they are free from Baublebar when you spend over $40. Isn’t it sweet?I got so many compliments on them already.

If you are feeling a bit chilly then you can add a little moto jacket like this

GM8A5828

This color is good for spring and summer and you won’t believe I spotted this same jacket on Singers and TV Actors! Yes the Same!

GM8A5794

So are you ready to host your own Rooftop Party?? πŸ˜‰

Classics by the Garden……

Hope everyone is enjoying the spring showers lately!!! πŸ˜€ I am not a rain person at all! So lets get in to where we are going in our post. Yes you are right we are going to a place πŸ˜‰

Are you ready? Before that lets see what inspired me

Inspiration…..

There is not one but two reasons that inspired me to do this post.

First during my internship days I got to live in Pittsburgh, historic city and everyone knows it as city of Bridges. Me and my roommate were always looking for new, creative, fun places to visit and during that time we stumbled upon Botanical Garden. First glance was very beautiful with various collections of plants and flowers and as far i remember there was a wedding and bride was wearing a gorgeous white delicate gown that complimented so well with the background. So taht’s how I found my love for Botanical Gardens :).

GM8A5720

When I came to know that New York Botanical Garden was having an Orchid show this year with the theme of Thailand ,was excited to plan my shoot here with such colorful background.

Second, I had seen pics of this year’s Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere in Baguio,Phillipines during the competition where she was sporting classic white jumpsuit against the lovely floral background.

GM8A5732

I needed a colorful background to show you guys how to put classics together with or without accessories. So let’s get started.

GM8A5726

In the above picture I have taken a basic white top and paired it with high waisted pinstripe pant. If you notice this print will give you a leaner look and added the same classic black/white printed pointy pumps to continue the leaner theme. The fun part of this outfit is the freedom to use different patterns but still achieve a polished look.

Remember when mixing prints always maintain same color combination to have a streamlined look.

Now if you want to take this look to office or client meeting what do you do?

GM8A5762

Simple just add a colorful blazer to bring that pop of color to your classic outfit like i did here . You can also stick to white/black too if you are not comfortable with loud colors.

Let’s talk accessories as you noticed I have added a statement necklace but …yes it’s in the same color as the top so you can mute the affect. I love these necklaces that have 2 of them πŸ˜€ They are very versatile and can take an outfit to a higher level!

Last but not the least I have paired it with a satchel to finish this look. The structure of the bag elevates the outfit so when going to any official/business meetings prefer to carry a bag that has structure. If your laptop size is manageable then you have a lot of choices.

GM8A5780

Girl go get that job done!!! πŸ˜‰

PS: The Orchid Show is still there till April 9th.

When Feminine meets Edgy……

In the last post you saw my inspiration, how I got my personal style and saw a glimpse of my style which was more inclining towards glam. Today am going to cover one of my favourite combinations where you will learn how to mix delicate details with edgy details.

Are you ready?

Here am playing with my gemini personality Β by bringing extremely opposite styles together. I like how they come together Β when done right.I like to toughen up my soft , delicate pieces by adding a leather jacket. You won’t believe I have experimented this concept for work wear too, will share those looks in my future posts.

Spring is around the corner and weather seems to be little bit unstable. If you are like me very eager to get spring clothes out of your closet but the weather does not let you, try this.

GM8A1402

So what do you think? πŸ™‚

Now a day’s midi dresses and floral prints are in trend!Midi dresses are a boon as they add class and elegance whereas floral prints are the perfect addition for your wardrobe for spring.Depending on your style pick up a print that does not overwhelm you.

This vibrant print got my attention and I was already thinking about how to style it and the timing was perfect as the dress was on sale πŸ™‚ Here I took this floral midi dress which became a maxi (LOL!) for my height and paired it with leather jacket as black is the base color throughout. If you observe, you can only see 2 colors Red and Black that make this outfit. So remember when you are layering, keep them in same color tone which will help you achieve a very streamlined look.

GM8A1415

Now coming to the accessories I have tried to stick to the same color theme .Have maintained the shine in the bag and shoes ,ladies when you are going for midi length dress always go for open toes high heels/high heels which will give you length. Opt for a crop jacket that hits your waist.

GM8A1484

Completed with the trendy oversized mirrored glasses. Trust me they are head turning πŸ˜‰

and now where will you go in this outfit ? I would love to go to any museum, meeting up with girlfriends, spring brunch Β and so on….

I had fun putting out and shooting for this outfit and hope you have learned something too!

Let me know your comments here.

Chase Your Dreams…..

Hi All , I have been MIA for a really long time and yes there is a reason for it!I had a vision on how my blog should look so after a lot of thinking and working on it here it goes…

Inspiration….

5 yrs ago I was in my apartment trying out few outfits as its my favorite hobby (trust me have lot of hobbies) never knew that there was a world called as Fashion Blogging. Its has breathed new life in to me , in which am true to myself.

I was talking to my mom about how am going to start my own Fashion Blog and she patiently trying to understand the new jargon, you know she is very smart and likes to keep herself updated with all the latest fad as of now she is hooked to YouTube πŸ˜€

So Fashion,Fabrics,Styling has always been in my family like my grandmother was a very popular Tailor/Seamstress of her village and due to this all her children including my mom and aunt’s are default good at tailoring. I am very proud of my mom ,she is very talented and still stitches her own clothes. So when I was young like may be 7 or 8 used to go with her to local cloth stores where she would carefully inspect the quality of the cloth, color, movement the Saree (Indian traditional garment) has to offer. So after assisting her on various trips even am very drawn to all these aspects a clothing has to offer. She has an impeccable taste! You will now agree with me if I say my first inspiration is my MOM.She is very organized which I still need to work on it.

My daytime job is IT Consultant and Yes I travel! Perks of being a Consultant get to travel new places meet new people and exposure to new environments. It really helps you build your unique personality. As my job requires me to interact with clients daily so my style is very classic but chic at the the same time.My style has changed, grown from time to time.Being lived in big cities had an opportunity to experiment with my looks and carry it to small cities where I stood out. Initially I was bit conscious of my standing out but later tried to embrace it and then had fun creating new looks.I am glad was able to inspire my coworkers to get their inner fashionista out!So my second inspiration is my JOB.

I believe in having a personal style and have spent a lot of time learning about myself . The way you dress impacts the way you feel and act.Its been a confidence booster for me all the time. Many of my friends ask me how am I put together all the time. There is a saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day” so even for me it took time. Style is where your personality comes out and this is where I play with it. Experimenting with colors, prints, textures, silhouette and enjoy doing it.

So as being the granddaughter of my grandmother and daughter of my mother I am trying to continue our Β love for Fabrics and Fashion with this blog. πŸ™‚

Support…..

My friends have always been my support system when it comes to blogging . They always pushed me to go and chase my dream of having my own Fashion Blog. So I would like to thank all my Friends for this . It wouldn’t have been possible with out you guys. ❀

I want to thank my Family for always being there for me.

Lastly a big shout out to my Photographer Henrietta @therealhbmedia. She is an amazing and talented person.

soΒ Chase your dreams because they are worth it!
